More InformationDance is a very popular part of the wider curriculum, encouraging young people to express themselves through physical movement and exercise their creativity.
As a result, pupils grow in self-confidence as they develop strength, muscle control, flexibility and coordination. All dance classes take place in a purpose-built Dance Studio within our Great Hall performing arts complex.
There are many different ways pupils can become involved in dance; they can choose to sign up for a dance activity/club which takes place after school. Dance styles range from the traditional Classical Ballet to more Modern-based Commercial Dance, as well as the growingly popular Contemporary Dance and Aerial Hoop. An Advanced Dance class for the experienced dance students is also available.
Dance sessions are run as an option for the Year 11-Upper Sixth games programme, where the pupils can experience many different dance styles, from Street Dance to Modern Jazz and Contemporary. They can also choose Dance Exercise as part of their games programme.
There are many opportunities to perform dance here at The Leys, from assembly performances to external showcases, alongside workshops with professionals and our very own annual Leys Dance production.
Private lessons are also available, charged to parents’ termly account. During these lessons pupils are given the opportunity to work towards graded examinations in the dance style of their choice, which helps develop their technique and performance further.
