150 Anniversary

Celebrating 150 Years

The Leys School is proud to launch a series of exciting events and projects to mark its sesquicentennial. These celebrations promise to honour our rich history and foster community spirit, culminating in a memorable year for all associated with The Leys.

Throughout the year, the School will display banners around its perimeter and fly a new flag over the King’s Building. The flag, designed based on drawings from the 1960s, incorporates elements of our Coat of Arms and will be present throughout 2025 and beyond.

Early in the year, we will announce several projects, including a timeline of the School’s history on our website, a display of objects from our Archive, and an associated art exhibition featuring works by our pupils. Additionally, we will produce a commemorative publication celebrating Leysians across the decades.

Two films have been produced for the anniversary year, both premiering in January. The documentary, ‘Return to Pitlochry,’ focuses on the evacuation of Leysians to Pitlochry, Scotland, in the 1940s. It follows three Old Leysians on a nostalgic and uplifting journey as they retrace the wartime footsteps of their fathers. The second, created by Affixxius Films, is a promotional piece that looks to the future, capturing the essence of what makes The Leys special to aid in our recruitment efforts for the years to come.

The anniversary will also feature a full programme of events, with highlights including a Service of Thanksgiving at King’s College Chapel, a Ball, sports and musical events, and reunions for Old Leysians both in Cambridge and overseas.
